3. Caño Island

Caño Island is an amazing marine biological reserve in Costa Rica located approximately 20km offshore of Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula. Rated as being the best underwater adventure diving spots in the world, the Caño Island Biological Reserve is also home to a huge variety of fish, whales and sharks. This island’s virgin waters are some of the bluest in the country, and are home to a spectacular variety of stunning marine flora and fauna as well as some gorgeous coral reefs. Unfortunately the water was quite murky the day we went and I constantly kept getting water in my mask. However, the views from the government-owned island are absolutely incredible, especially from my Mavic Pro drone!

4. Corcovado National Park

Corcovado is the largest park (164 sq. mi.) in Costa Rica and protects about a third of the Osa Peninsula. The only way to reach the island is by boat ride from Sierpe on the coast. It's a beautiful ride through narrow channels in the largest mangrove forest on the Pacific Coast. We stayed heIt is widely considered to be the most biologically diverse place on the planet! It's a paradise for wildlife with very minimal human intervention. All four of the monkeys species found within Costa Rica exist in large numbers throughout the park. As of February 1, 2014 all Corcovado visitors must be accompanied by certified professional guides.

5. La Paz Waterfall Gardens

"La Paz Waterfall Gardens features the best hiking near San José, the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica, animal sanctuary with over 100 species of animals, and an environmental education program." Walk through the beautiful dense rainforest in a cloud forest and explore the five cascading waterfalls. This was the first tour I went on after arriving at the airport and it surpassed my expectations! Wildlife includes toucans, butterflies, frogs, white-faced monkeys, spider monkeys, hummingbirds, snakes, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, margays, etc. Highly recommend visiting this nature preserve if you're close to San José. It's also located near Paos Volcano, which I haven't visited yet.
