Photo Tour of Austin Bouldering Project
My new favorite place to exercise and work is the Austin Bouldering Project on the east side of Austin, Texas located at 979 Springdale Rd. This beautiful property is the largest of its kind with over a 50,000-square-foot facility of which 23,000 square feet is dedicated to the bouldering gym area. I recently got a monthly membership and I've been going every afternoon like clockwork. You can bring two guests per month. It's open from 6AM - 11PM weekdays and 9-10 weekends.
ABP Main Entrance
Upon entering the facility, you are greeted by friendly hosts behind a desk. They are available to help you with any questions, provide climbing shoes and register new members. A new membership is $70/month which includes full access to the climbing wall, gym, yoga, co-working space, sauna, and showers.
You can buy high-quality climbing shoes from their store.
The climbing wall is exhilarating and a great way to build upper-body strength. You can rent shoes for $4 or buy a used pair for $15. On a typical weekday after work, there's a frenzy of activity on the wall. It always feels good to get the blood flowing around other ambitious climbers.
The Rock Climbing Wall
The co-working space is upstairs. I love the brightly-lit industrious atmosphere. It's a great area for meetings, laptop work and reading. Whatever you use it for, it definitely beats hanging around the house all day.
Dedicated Co-Working Space
Aside from the climbing wall, the best perk of being a member at ABP is the yoga classes. My favorite yoga studio is still Tree House Yoga, especially for heated vinyasa classes. That being said, the instructors are really good here as well. Class sizes are usually 10-15 people. The room is clean and spacious with vaulted ceilings. It's so rejuvenating to soak in muscle-permeating heat of the sauna after an upbeat yoga session.
Beautiful Yoga Studio
There's also a large gym with all the heavy-duty exercise equipment.
